The Differences Between Splash Page vs Landing Page

Splash Page vs Landing Page. Do you know what are the differences between them? In this post, I’m going to go through some quick differences between a splash page and landing page. Know a friend who needs this?

Use the share button below to spread the word!

    What is a splash page?

Here’s the definition from Instapages. A splash page is a page that precedes any page on your website. The purpose of a splash page varies: You can promote a new offer, show a disclaimer, or a warning depending on the industry or niche your business operates in.

The basic purpose of a splash page is to inform visitors of something, such as a new company update.

Creative companies such as Forbes uses splash pages to share thought-provoking quotes (to entice the readers):

    Forbes Splash Page

Typically, a splash page contains minimal copy, a background image, and most importantly a link that takes the visitor to the main website. Forbes does this perfectly well with the option to ‘continue to site.’

At the same time, a splash page can also serve as a welcome screen to the main website or a teaser that gets visitors excited for the website they’re about to view.

What makes a splash page important?

Splash page has many usage which includes:

    • Teaser
    • Coming soon pages
    • Age disclaimer (alcohol or tobacco)

    Disadvantages using splash pages

Splash screens contained redirecting JavaScript, which most search engines disliked as well. This redirection is also why websites hosting traditional splash page designs started getting ranked lower in most search engines. These splash pages were often poorly-designed and visitors are turned off from the website altogether. As a summary, splash pages were causing a hindrance for users to engage with the website and business as a whole.

    What is a landing page?

A landing page is pretty similar to a splash page – but with some differences. A landing page is a standalone web page, disconnected from a website’s navigation, created for the sole purpose of convincing a visitor to act (to sign up, buy, download, etc.).

The differences between a landing page and a splash page is landing pages are created for conversion.

As businesses become more data-driven, landing pages become more popular for their ability to deliver high ROI. Research has shown that companies using 40 or more landing pages generate 120% more leads than those using less than 5.

    Create Landing Pages

Why are landing pages better than splash pages?

Landing pages often come with specific goals. As a matter of fact, each landing page should have one goal. If your landing page is built for the purpose of getting prospects to sign up for a free trial of your service, it shouldn’t also attempt to convince them to download a report.

Two CTAs of “Download” and “Sign up” will steal conversions from each other. Instead, it’s better to build a separate page for each.

    Splash Page vs Landing Page

Both splash page and landing page are different and you will be surprised that many marketers use splash and landing pages wrongly.

Bonus: How to create a landing page or a splash page?

Let me be really honest with you. There are many website page builder that you can use to build landing pages or splash pages.

If you are using MailChimp for email marketing, it provides free landing page builder to help you get started on the right foot. However, you are not just looking for any builder tool.

You are looking for the best, low learning curve and easy to use page builder. And if this is the case, you should try Thrive Architect. It is a powerful page builder plugin that integrates well with all WordPress websites (sorry Joomla) and doesn’t cost much. Even this blog post you are reading is created using Thrive Architect.

Therefore, you don’t have to install multiple WordPress plugins just to get the job done.
