How To Do Keyword Research Fast (And Find Many Profitable Long Tail Keywords)?

How do you do keyword research fast? In this article, I'm going to show you how you can find long tail keywords and at the same time, perform the right keyword research fast. To be exact, you will be able to find low difficulty keywords under 45 minutes.

Are you ready to dive in?

What is keyword research?

Keyword research is the process of finding the right keywords that are easy to rank. The concept of keyword research is finding long tail keywords, medium to high volume searches and having low competition.

One of the most common mistakes done by freelance SEO consultants are (solely) finding for profitable keywords without taking into consideration factors such as search volume, difficulty and keyword length.

Why is keyword research important?

Keyword research is a process and it takes time to master this process. Anyone can do keyword research but only a few can do it right. And when you do the right keyword research, you are going to find the right keywords to rank a website.

You will discover many keywords when you do keyword research. The only question is "are you finding the RIGHT keywords?"

Allow me to repeat myself. Keyword research is NOT complicated. It takes time to understand the process and the tools to be effective.

Always remember that having the best keyword research software is not going to help you if you have no idea how to use it correctly.

The best keyword research software is ... ?

This is a tough question to answer because it depends on personal needs. When it comes to the best keyword research software, there are both free and paid keyword research tool that you can choose from.

For this post, I'm going to share with you two tools which I believe they are the best keyword research software in the market today.

Best Keyword Research Software #1: Rank Tracker by Link-Assistant

Rank Tracker is free to use and by far, one of the most powerful keyword research tools I had used. Before you throw rotten tomato at me, hear me out. There is also a paid plan for Rank Tracker which allows you to export data, save your projects and a few more cool features. Check out the features here.

Rank Tracker is powerful only if you know how to use it. Rank Tracker is not an easy keyword research software for ease of usage. To be honest, it is one of the most complicated ones in the market.

The only reason why I still use Rank Tracker (aside from knowing how to use it) is the pricing. It's free for Christ's sake. Yes, yes and yes. Rank Tracker is free to use (forever)! So, there is no way in hell (or heaven) that anyone can complain about a free keyword research tool!

Let's dive more into Rank Tracker and how to use Rank Tracker to do keyword research fast.

How to use Rank Tracker to do keyword research fast?

The first step is to download and install Rank Tracker. You can download for free here.

How To Install Rank Tracker

After installing Rank Tracker, fire it up to start doing keyword research. This is what you will see (below). In step 1, key in your domain name to get started.

Rank Tracker review

Once that is done, you will be prompted with the step 2 which is to sign in to your Google account. I recommend you to sign in for both Google Analytics and Google Adwords.

sync google account

Once you have completed step 2, you will find a long list of keywords in step 3. These keywords are taken directly from your Google Analytics (top performing ones only). Delete all of them and enter the keyword of your choice to start keyword research.

Start Keyword Research Using Rank Tracker

In step 4, you will need to choose the search engine to start the keyword research and ranking results. I recommend focusing on the top three search engines which are Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Pro Tip: You can focus on local SEO instead of just focusing on US geolocation.

Determine Search Engine

Next, head over to Keyword Research > Keyword Suggestions and start searching for the seed keyword.

Fast Keyword Research With Rank Tracker

While doing this sample keyword research, this SEO keyword research software takes around 8 seconds to come up with 1,102 related keywords. Now, it's time to get your hand dirty and dive into the advanced keyword research strategy.

Remember that you are looking for:

  • Medium to high search volume
  • Low keyword difficulty
  • High Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) score (KEI is an internal ranking factor by Rank Tracker)

KEI score is calculated based on the following:

What is Keyword Effectiveness Index

By default, KEI is not activated on Rank Tracker. Therefore, you need to activate it and here's how.

where is KEI in Rank Tracker

After activating KEI score, this is what you will see. You should sort the keywords based on KEI score (higher to lower).

KEI for Keyword Research

1,102 keywords is a lot and therefore, use the filter to find only relevant keywords based on your choice. I call this process, "find valuable long tail keywords."

find valuable long tail keywords

Out of the 121 long tail keywords, I choose a few which I believe have the best chance of ranking (and making money).

Select Long Tail Keywords

Right click and choose the first option, "Move Selected Keywords To Rank Tacking." Rank Tracker will ask you to to create a group for this and you can use any name for this purpose. This is what you will see.

RankTracker Find Profitable Keywords

The last step is to check on the keyword difficulty for each keyword you had chosen earlier. This is how you check for keyword difficulty using Rank Tracker.

How To Find Keyword Diffuclty Using Rank Tracker

Among all the keywords, I have found one of the keywords having the lowest keyword difficulty. By changing the visible column, I can easily sort the different long tail keywords using Rank Tracker in just a few clicks. You can also enable Yahoo and Bing keyword difficulty feature to reconfirm your findings or simply want to rank on different search engines apart from Google.

How long it takes to find long tail keywords using Rank Tracker?

The above search took me 10 minutes. Yes, 10 minutes and just a few clicks of the mouse.

So, what do you learned from this?

With the (right or) best SEO keyword research software, you will be able to do keyword research fast and find profitable long tail keywords without spending your entire day it.

KWFinder Review 2020 — Is KWFinder worth it?

It has been 7 months since I published this KWFinder review and I felt that there are changes done to KWFinder in terms of search engine optimization and keyword research. These are important lingos used in common search engines. Taking time to understand these terms will help you more than just using KWFinder but your overall SEO keyword research and processes.

Here are terms you will find on KWFinder.

Suggestions. Keywords which are related to your primary keyword.

Trend. Search volume trend in the last 12 months (bar form).

Search. Average monthly search volume in the last 12 months. This stat allows you to gauge the 'profitability' of your keyword.

CPC. Average Cost Per Click in Google Adwords. This is how much advertisers pay on average to rank for this keyword.

PPC. Level of competition in PPC in Google Adwords. The higher the value represents the higher competition for the keyword.

KD. Overall Keyword SEO Difficulty. It is calculated asthe average Lunk Profile Strength (LPS) of URLs ranking in the 1st Google SERP. The lower the value, the easier it is for you to rank the content.

Keyword SEO Difficulty. It ranges from 0 to 100. Keywords with the value between 0 to 39 is considered very easy while the value of 40 to 54 is considered possible. Anything above 55 is considered hard and close to impossible.

Google SERP. First page results from GOogle search results page (SERP) for selected keyword. You can click 'load more' to load next page search results.

DA. Domain Authority (MOZ) of the URL. This value represents the strength of the selected domain to rank on the first page of Google. The higher the value, the easier it is to rank on Google.

PA. Page Authority (MOZ) of the URL. This value represents the strength of the exact URL in terms of ranking on the first of Google.

MR. MozRank of the URL. This value is provided by MOZ and it is based on a specific calculatation done by Moz to determine the URL ranking power.

FB. The number of Facebook shares for the selected URL.

LPS. Overall Link Proile Strength of the URL which is calculated from DA, PA, MR, MT and other metrics. I recommend you to take serious consideration on LPS for each keyword to rank faster on Google.

Est. visits. Rather straight forward, this is the expected visits each URL is getting in a month.

BONUS: KWFinder Review & Tip

Do you know that you can customize the stats to display data based on your needs using KWFinder?

Step 4: Use the 'Results Filter' feature

It would take less than 5 seconds for you to get a long list of related keywords result after the search. Now, the next step is to use the 'Results Filter' to find for the most profitable long tail keywords.

How to find profitable long tail keywords using KWFinder?

There are many opinions on this (if you compare this KWFinder review with other blogs) but I find out that the best setting are as follow:

  • check
    Search volume (MIN 200)
  • check
    Keyword Difficulty (MAX 39)
  • check
Exclude Keywords (exclude keywords of your choice)

Why do I use the above settings?

Configuring the search volume allows me to ensure that I don't go for keywords that are too low in traffic.

On the other hand, keyword density is an important factor for ranking your content. In this case, I go for maximum of 39 because I know that small to medium blogs have high chances of ranking on first page with these keyword difficulty.

Last but not least, I prefer excluding keywords to ensure that my list is clean. I often exclude words such as "free", "cheap" and "nulled" for starters ... for obvious reasons. Again, always exclude keywords which are not relevant to you.

This is what it looks like in the setting that you toggle and adjust based on your needs.

find long tail keywords

Click on the toggle 'Results Filter' to get a filtered search results based on your settings. Now, what you get is a nice clean list of profitable long tail keywords which you can focus on to start ranking on Google.

I cannot stress this enough but you should always start your keyword research using seed keyword. Even if you know the exact long tail keyword, you should use KWFinder by inputting in the seed keyword.

KWFinder is going to give you a large set of related keywords which are related to your seed keyword.

Before we go much deeper, allow me to share with you the search quota for each plan (including KWFinder free plan). This is important because the plan you choose will impact your keyword search results.

kwfinder pricing table

The above image shows the KWFinder pricing table. Let's focus on the 'Keyword Research' in the image.

KWFinder Basic plan comes with 100 keyword lookups daily and each keyword research will generate 200 keyword suggestions. This means that you will get up to 200 related keywords based on your primary keyword!

I'm using KWFinder Premium plan with comes with 500 keyword lookups daily and up to 700 keyword suggestions per search. In other words, each search will give me 700 related keywords (most of the time are long tail keywords) and I can easily sort the long tail keywords based on profitability (average cost per click) and chance of ranking on Google first page by filtering the results.

find long tail keyword using kwfinder

For this KWFinder review demo, I will use a random primary keyword "recipe for toddler."

The keyword research came back with 534 related keywords, which are related to the primary keyword. As you can see above, I am able to see the keyword difficulty score, keyword search volume and average cost per click. If you want to find for easy keywords to rank on Google SERP or Google search, make sure you play attention to the keyword SEO difficulty.

Again, I'm using KWFinder Premium plan and therefore, I will get more keywords from each keyword research. If you are using the basic plan (or the KWFinder free plan), you will get slightly lesser list of keywords.

Step 2: Finding keywords to rank by filtering the keyword suggestions

how to filter results on KWFinder

The next step is to filter the search results based on your requirements.

KWFinder is more than just a keyword finder tool. When compared to other SEO keyword research tool such as Long Tail Pro, KWFinder offers more features as a keyword finder software. For example, the filtering feature allows you to minimize the search results and reduce the list of keywords to a much smaller one - focusing on finding long tail keywords that are easy to rank for.

Upon successful filtering, you will see the keyword results is minimized to a smaller list of 235 long tail keywords which are highly targeted, long tail keywords and having super low competition!

Step 3: Analyze each long tail keyword using SERPChecker by KWFinder

Here's what I can tell you. Many bloggers do this mistake by stopping the keyword research right after the second step. You should continue your keyword analysis to find for keywords that are low competition and easy to rank on Google.

This step requires you to do keyword analysis (no longer keyword research) to determine the best long tail keywords which you can easily rank on Google.

Introducing, SERPChecker by KWFinder.

In order to use KWFinder SERPChecker, here's what you need to do.

I sorted the results by toggling on the KD (keyword difficulty) column. I decided to go with the keyword "healthy breakfast ideas for toddlers" which I felt it has a good keyword search volume and low keyword difficulty score. More importantly, if I'm starting a blog related to this topic, the average cost per click is very healthy and I could leverage a lot using Google Adsense.

On the right side of the screen, you will see several stats, including the top 10 results on Google.

Click on the Analyze SERP button which is found on the bottom right of the screen.

how to use SERPChecker

This keyword analysis will provide you a long list (table form) as seen above. Green colour represents easy to rank while red colour shows challenging or close to impossible to rank. The colour changes based on the keyword difficulty score.

Take a closer look on the first three rankings on Google. They have an average of 46 in Domain Authority (DA) score and they are still able to outrank the competitors. This proves that you can outrank the competitions as well through optimizing your blog and improving your content.

Plus, you will notice that the 7th and 8th Google results are taken from Pinterest. Google will only show content from social media if there are very limited quality content on the Internet. Again, this is a sign that this is an easy long tail keyword to rank for.

Another huge advantage using KWFinder is the ability to search for authority linkings. Based on SERPChecker, you will see that none of the content are having backlinks from authority sites. Therefore, this is another important criteria when using KWFinder to find long tail keywords and rank these keywords on Google search.

Do you know?

The stats shown on KWFinder are based on real-time and therefore, clicking on any keyword will trigger a recheck on all the stats.

Step 4: Craft and publish the best content

The next step to rank is not related to KWFinder but your blog. You should publish content that is much better than the first one on Google search. We all know that there are over 200 ranking factors that determine the ranking of your content on Google SERP.

While keyword research is critical, you have to remember to optimize the content as much as possible to send the right signals to search engines to start crawling your site.

In order to create a content that ranks on the first page of Google, you should:

  • check
Research on what your competitors are doing (and out do them)
  • check
Improve your content by having more visuals and interactive content
  • check
Long forms are always great ways to boost your site ranking thanks to RankBrain

I use Thrive Architect WordPress editor to make my blog content interactive and fun for the web visitors. This blog post is created using the drag and drop plugin and you can find more information about Thrive Architect here.

Step 5: Check your ranking using SERPWatcher

What is SERPWatcher?

SERPWatcher allows you to monitor your site's ranking through keywords. For example, you had just published a content focusing on the long tail keyword, "healthy breakfast ideas for toddlers."

Enter the domain name, select the location (I prefer using it as 'Anywhere') and finally, select the option of either desktop or mobile.

You can copy the keyword tracking on desktop and move it to mobile once you have completed all the steps above.

SERPWatcher takes around 30 minutes to populate the results and the best results will be visible after a day or two. It may take a long time to analyze the keywords but trust me, this is extremely important when it comes to finding the best search results and getting the rightkeywords to hit the first page of Google.

Important note in the KWFinder review: KWFinder Basic plan allows you to monitor 200 keywords daily while KWFinder Premium allows tracking of 700 keywords a day.

Long Tail Pro Review, Features And $20 Discount Code

Long tail keywords had become a way to gain search traffic and probably one of the best tips for SEO 2014. While there are many proven theories that long tail keywords is a great way to achieve better SERPs, many bloggers and content writers are still having issues trying to find untapped keyword niche.

Years back, long tail keywords are usually used for niche blogging only; very specific blogging topics and today's world, everything had changed. In other words, gone were the days where you try to rank for only one to two letter words. Your main focus now is to find for longer and more specific keyword terms instead of very general terms.

The importance of long tail keywords

How can long tail keywords affect blog traffic?

Not only the value of long tail keywords had increased dramatically, they continue to be a powerful way to leverage search traffic especially with the growing competition for high value 'core' keywords.

What is a long tail keyword?

Long tail keywords are keyword which are mainly unpopular and usually have lower competition. This means that ranking for these keywords on search engines would be easier.

Check out the image below for better understanding:

Difference between long tail keywords and general keywords

Do you see the differences between both boxes in red?

The term 'blogging' easily lead to around 14,800 searches in a month and long tail keywords such as 'blogging websites' has around 1,900 searches only. Chances are that there are more visitors trying to find for longer search terms instead of the generic term of 'blogging'.

So, what is the easiest way to find long tail keywords?

Performing keyword research using Long Tail Pro

Long Tail Pro is the brainchild of Spencer Haws and if you have no idea he is (still), he is the man behind Niche Pursuits. While there are tons of keyword research tools out there in the market, I was in love with Long Tail Pro immediately after using it.

I got to admit that I am not a niche blogger and usually Google Keyword Planner is the only keyword tool I use. After using Long Tail Pro, I knew it is the best keyword research tool ever created. Period!

Do you believe that Long Tail Pro (or LTP in short) makes keyword research looks so easy? Here are 3 reasons why I would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious in finding the best keywords for niche blogging.

Long Tail Pro feature #1 - Insanely easy to setup

For those who don't know me well, I am no fan of complicated tools setup. This means that I usually ditch the manual (not recommended) and start immediately.

Yes, I give no second thought on that!

With Long Tail Pro, it is extremely easy to setup. All I need were:

  1. Add a new campaign name
  2. Add Google credentials to LTP
  3. Adding Moz access ID

And I am all done. Yup ... under 5 minutes flat.

Long Tail Pro feature #2 - Custom keyword research software

I love to consider Long Tail Pro is a advanced Google Keyword Planner. With LTP, I am able set additional keyword filters such as:

  1. Specify global search volume
  2. Domain availability
  3. Google title competition
  4. Bing title competition
  5. Average local searches
  6. Average CPC
  7. Number of words
  8. Search up to 10 keywords at one time

Basically with Long Tail Pro, you are able to multitask and complete each task in a very short time period. Personally, these features make it as one of the most efficient keyword research tools I ever used.

Long Tail Pro Keyword Research Tool

Long Tail Pro feature #3 - Competitor analysis

One of LTP's most popular features is the one-click competitor analysis. Once you have specify a keyword generated from the Keyword Research option, LTP allows you to analyse the ranking factor.

This means that you will get a full report of the top 10 sites which are listed on Google with that keyword. The report consists of several important ranking factors such as:

  1. Page authority
  2. Page links
  3. Juice page links
  4. Domain authority
  5. Moz ranking
  6. PageRank
  7. Site age

When it comes to finding profitable keyword, these features offered by Long Tail Pro could possibly be the best thing a niche blogger would require. For this particular feature, it gives a perfect outlook on the chances of ranking that specific keyword.

Do I need to mention that it is extremely important factor?

With proper SEO strategies, you would be able to find low competition but profitable long tail keywords.

Long Tail Pro feature #4 - Rank checker

This is one very powerful LTP feature which is often underused by many bloggers. With just a click of a button, you would be able to determine how your website is ranking for specific keywords. While there are many keyword research tools which can do that for you as well, it is great to see this is included in Long Tail Pro version.

Basically, all you need to do is to:

LTP Rank Checker doesn't only check ranking on Google but as well as Yahoo and Bing search engines as well.

Question: Is Long Tail Pro really worth it?

The answer is yes. Among all the keyword research tools I had used, Long Tail Pro is definitely one of the best software that worth your money and highly flexible. If you are doing niche blogging, it is an absolute no brainer to have Long Tail Pro as one of your most powerful SEO arsenal.
