KWFinder Review 2020 — Is KWFinder worth it?

It has been 7 months since I published this KWFinder review and I felt that there are changes done to KWFinder in terms of search engine optimization and keyword research. Recently, I published a post on "How To Do Keyword Research Fast" that covers finding profitable long tail keywords using KWFinder and Ranker Tracker.

Of course, that triggered me to update this article because we (SEO marketers) often love comparing keyword tools in search for the best keyword research tool, shorter time in finding keywords and ultimately, to rank on Google first page.

Before I get down and serious with this KWFinder review for 2018, I want to tell you that I created this article because I was sick and tired of the Internet. I couldn't find any relevant KWFinder review that answers my question. More specifically, I found out that there wasn't a specific guide to use KWFinder to find for profitable long tail keywords.

Don't get me wrong. Some of the links here are my affiliate links to KWFinder where if you click and purchase KWFinder subscription, I'll get a small cut or commission which helps me to keep this blog running (that I truly appreciate it). The truth is, there are too many blogs out there who published KWFinder review without actually sharing relevant information. KWFinder is a wonderful keyword research tool (or keyword planner tool as some of us call it). However, it also have weaknesses which I'll cover in this KWFinder review.

KWFinder comes with a free plan (with limited usages which you can sign up here) or paid plans. I decided to sign up for a paid KWFinder plan as I felt it is the best based on my usage. Here goes! Enter the seed keyword of your choice in the column and click on the green button, Find Keywords.

Important disclaimer: Always start your keyword research using primary keywords.

Continue reading below as I will show you exactly (step by step) how you can find long tail keywords for free using KWFinder.

Step 3: KWFinder stats and keyword results

KWFinder is an excellent free keyword finder tool if you know how to use it. Using KWFinder many be tricky as it offers many stats which willaffect the way you choose your keywords to rank.

Therefore, pay close attention to these stats. Understanding the stats will help you find powerful keywords to rank fast on Google and other search engines.

These are important lingos used in common search engines. Taking time to understand these terms will help you more than just using KWFinder but your overall SEO keyword research and processes.

Here are terms you will find on KWFinder.

Suggestions. Keywords which are related to your primary keyword.

Trend. Search volume trend in the last 12 months (bar form).

Search. Average monthly search volume in the last 12 months. This stat allows you to gauge the 'profitability' of your keyword.

CPC. Average Cost Per Click in Google Adwords. This is how much advertisers pay on average to rank for this keyword.

PPC. Level of competition in PPC in Google Adwords. The higher the value represents the higher competition for the keyword.

KD. Overall Keyword SEO Difficulty. It is calculated asthe average Lunk Profile Strength (LPS) of URLs ranking in the 1st Google SERP. The lower the value, the easier it is for you to rank the content.

Keyword SEO Difficulty. It ranges from 0 to 100. Keywords with the value between 0 to 39 is considered very easy while the value of 40 to 54 is considered possible. Anything above 55 is considered hard and close to impossible.

Google SERP. First page results from GOogle search results page (SERP) for selected keyword. You can click 'load more' to load next page search results.

DA. Domain Authority (MOZ) of the URL. This value represents the strength of the selected domain to rank on the first page of Google. The higher the value, the easier it is to rank on Google.

PA. Page Authority (MOZ) of the URL. This value represents the strength of the exact URL in terms of ranking on the first of Google.

MR. MozRank of the URL. This value is provided by MOZ and it is based on a specific calculatation done by Moz to determine the URL ranking power.

MR. MozTrust in short, this value represents the trust level of the URL. The higher trust level the URL has, it will rank higher on Google search as well as being authority.

Links. The number of external authority-passing Links to the URL. KWFinder calculates the number of authority links that are providing backlink to the page. This is a smart move because anyone can use black hat SEO and blast hundreds or thousands of links to the URL.

FB. The number of Facebook shares for the selected URL.

LPS. Overall Link Proile Strength of the URL which is calculated from DA, PA, MR, MT and other metrics. I recommend you to take serious consideration on LPS for each keyword to rank faster on Google.

Est. visits. Rather straight forward, this is the expected visits each URL is getting in a month.

BONUS: KWFinder Review & Tip

Do you know that you can customize the stats to display data based on your needs using KWFinder?

Step 4: Use the 'Results Filter' feature

It would take less than 5 seconds for you to get a long list of related keywords result after the search. Now, the next step is to use the 'Results Filter' to find for the most profitable long tail keywords.

How to find profitable long tail keywords using KWFinder?

There are many opinions on this (if you compare this KWFinder review with other blogs) but I find out that the best setting are as follow:

  • check
    Search volume (MIN 200)
  • check
    Keyword Difficulty (MAX 39)
  • check
Exclude Keywords (exclude keywords of your choice)

Why do I use the above settings?

Configuring the search volume allows me to ensure that I don't go for keywords that are too low in traffic.

On the other hand, keyword density is an important factor for ranking your content. In this case, I go for maximum of 39 because I know that small to medium blogs have high chances of ranking on first page with these keyword difficulty.

Last but not least, I prefer excluding keywords to ensure that my list is clean. I often exclude words such as "free", "cheap" and "nulled" for starters ... for obvious reasons. Again, always exclude keywords which are not relevant to you.

This is what it looks like in the setting that you toggle and adjust based on your needs.

find long tail keywords

Click on the toggle 'Results Filter' to get a filtered search results based on your settings. Now, what you get is a nice clean list of profitable long tail keywords which you can focus on to start ranking on Google.

KWFinder Review: How to find long tail keywords using KWFinder

This KWFinder review will not be complete WITHOUT telling you how to find long tail keywords using this SEO research tool.

Here's a little rant of mine. Too many blogs are talking about KWFinder review but no one is actually telling you HOW to find long tail keywords using KWFinder.

And I totally get it. Telling you the exact steps is like telling you the trade secret, right?

Don't worry, I'm going to tell you how you can search for long tail keywords using KWFinder in this KWFinder review.

For the record, KWFinder is one of the best free keyword research tool for bloggers and marketers who are just trying out SEO. Even the entry level plan for KWFinder is extremely affordable to say the very least.

Click here to check out KWFinder pricing structure.

Step 1: Start keyword research using seed keyword

I cannot stress this enough but you should always start your keyword research using seed keyword. Even if you know the exact long tail keyword, you should use KWFinder by inputting in the seed keyword.

KWFinder is going to give you a large set of related keywords which are related to your seed keyword.

Before we go much deeper, allow me to share with you the search quota for each plan (including KWFinder free plan). This is important because the plan you choose will impact your keyword search results.

kwfinder pricing table

The above image shows the KWFinder pricing table. Let's focus on the 'Keyword Research' in the image.

KWFinder Basic plan comes with 100 keyword lookups daily and each keyword research will generate 200 keyword suggestions. This means that you will get up to 200 related keywords based on your primary keyword!

I'm using KWFinder Premium plan with comes with 500 keyword lookups daily and up to 700 keyword suggestions per search. In other words, each search will give me 700 related keywords (most of the time are long tail keywords) and I can easily sort the long tail keywords based on profitability (average cost per click) and chance of ranking on Google first page by filtering the results.

find long tail keyword using kwfinder

For this KWFinder review demo, I will use a random primary keyword "recipe for toddler."

The keyword research came back with 534 related keywords, which are related to the primary keyword. As you can see above, I am able to see the keyword difficulty score, keyword search volume and average cost per click. If you want to find for easy keywords to rank on Google SERP or Google search, make sure you play attention to the keyword SEO difficulty.

Again, I'm using KWFinder Premium plan and therefore, I will get more keywords from each keyword research. If you are using the basic plan (or the KWFinder free plan), you will get slightly lesser list of keywords.

Step 2: Finding keywords to rank by filtering the keyword suggestions

how to filter results on KWFinder

The next step is to filter the search results based on your requirements.

KWFinder is more than just a keyword finder tool. When compared to other SEO keyword research tool such as Long Tail Pro, KWFinder offers more features as a keyword finder software. For example, the filtering feature allows you to minimize the search results and reduce the list of keywords to a much smaller one - focusing on finding long tail keywords that are easy to rank for.

Upon successful filtering, you will see the keyword results is minimized to a smaller list of 235 long tail keywords which are highly targeted, long tail keywords and having super low competition!

Step 3: Analyze each long tail keyword using SERPChecker by KWFinder

Here's what I can tell you. Many bloggers do this mistake by stopping the keyword research right after the second step. You should continue your keyword analysis to find for keywords that are low competition and easy to rank on Google.

This step requires you to do keyword analysis (no longer keyword research) to determine the best long tail keywords which you can easily rank on Google.

Introducing, SERPChecker by KWFinder.

In order to use KWFinder SERPChecker, here's what you need to do.

I sorted the results by toggling on the KD (keyword difficulty) column. I decided to go with the keyword "healthy breakfast ideas for toddlers" which I felt it has a good keyword search volume and low keyword difficulty score. More importantly, if I'm starting a blog related to this topic, the average cost per click is very healthy and I could leverage a lot using Google Adsense.

On the right side of the screen, you will see several stats, including the top 10 results on Google.

Click on the Analyze SERP button which is found on the bottom right of the screen.

how to use SERPChecker

This keyword analysis will provide you a long list (table form) as seen above. Green colour represents easy to rank while red colour shows challenging or close to impossible to rank. The colour changes based on the keyword difficulty score.

Take a closer look on the first three rankings on Google. They have an average of 46 in Domain Authority (DA) score and they are still able to outrank the competitors. This proves that you can outrank the competitions as well through optimizing your blog and improving your content.

Plus, you will notice that the 7th and 8th Google results are taken from Pinterest. Google will only show content from social media if there are very limited quality content on the Internet. Again, this is a sign that this is an easy long tail keyword to rank for.

Another huge advantage using KWFinder is the ability to search for authority linkings. Based on SERPChecker, you will see that none of the content are having backlinks from authority sites. Therefore, this is another important criteria when using KWFinder to find long tail keywords and rank these keywords on Google search.

Do you know?

The stats shown on KWFinder are based on real-time and therefore, clicking on any keyword will trigger a recheck on all the stats.

Step 4: Craft and publish the best content

The next step to rank is not related to KWFinder but your blog. You should publish content that is much better than the first one on Google search. We all know that there are over 200 ranking factors that determine the ranking of your content on Google SERP.

While keyword research is critical, you have to remember to optimize the content as much as possible to send the right signals to search engines to start crawling your site.

In order to create a content that ranks on the first page of Google, you should:

  • check
Research on what your competitors are doing (and out do them)
  • check
Improve your content by having more visuals and interactive content
  • check
Long forms are always great ways to boost your site ranking thanks to RankBrain

I use Thrive Architect WordPress editor to make my blog content interactive and fun for the web visitors. This blog post is created using the drag and drop plugin and you can find more information about Thrive Architect here.

Step 5: Check your ranking using SERPWatcher

What is SERPWatcher?

SERPWatcher allows you to monitor your site's ranking through keywords. For example, you had just published a content focusing on the long tail keyword, "healthy breakfast ideas for toddlers."

Enter the domain name, select the location (I prefer using it as 'Anywhere') and finally, select the option of either desktop or mobile.

You can copy the keyword tracking on desktop and move it to mobile once you have completed all the steps above.

SERPWatcher takes around 30 minutes to populate the results and the best results will be visible after a day or two. It may take a long time to analyze the keywords but trust me, this is extremely important when it comes to finding the best search results and getting the rightkeywords to hit the first page of Google.

Important note in the KWFinder review: KWFinder Basic plan allows you to monitor 200 keywords daily while KWFinder Premium allows tracking of 700 keywords a day.

KWFinder Review: Comparing KWFinder with other keyword research tool

How does KWFinder compare with other SEO tools such as Ahrefs, Majestic SEO, Ranker Tracker (Link-Assistant) and SEMrush?

The answer is simple. KWFinder offers a simple and clean interface for you to do keyword research. In terms of overall performance, KWFinder is very decent and is pretty much on par (or better) than most of the keyword tools out there.

KWFinder is a keyword research tool to help you find easy to rank, profitable and long tail keywords. It is less of a backlink checker compared to Ahrefs, Majestic SEO and SEMrush.

KWFinder Review: Is KWFinder worth it?

1. Integrating HitTail code into WordPress blogs

Probably the easiest part of all. Upon registering (get your trial HitTail account here) for an account, a code will automatically be created for you.

The code looks something like this:

<!-- HitTail Code -->
<script type="text/javascript">
(function(){ var ht = document.createElement('script');ht.async = true;
ht.type='text/javascript';ht.src = '//';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ht, s);})();

Copy the code and place it before the closing of </body> tag or wp_footer(). For those who are not using Genesis theme, you would probably need to find the related tag to place the code which wouldn't take you much time.

Have a look what Geensis theme has to offer: Check out Genesis Framework & child themes.

Once that is done, you would need to wait for around 30 minutes or so (remember to clear cache for faster response) before HitTail would be able to detect the code and installation is complete.

2. Allowing HitTail to crawl and providing results

After your tracking code is verified, you will not be getting an immediate response or results you are looking for. It is best to wait for a few days before coming back to check on the results.

Basically, HitTail will record the source of your traffic and it will focus only on search engine traffic. As I had said above, HitTail helps to boost organic search engine optimization and it uses organic search results to provide you with the most relevant data.

HitTail provides several result options which are:

Search hits - This is where it gives you an exact information for the source of your traffic

Keywords - Keywords that visitors were searching which lands them on your site

My HitTail - Give you an outlook of the top 10 keywords of your search traffic and the number of long tail keywords that contributes to your traffic

Suggestions - HitTail takes a the list of long tail keywords (refer above) and provide you suggestions on future blog posts topics.

3. Searching for the best keywords for blogging

HitTail helps to promote organic search engine optimization

This is what it looks like on HitTail's dashboard

With the above, HitTail basically does all the keyword research you ever need to do and give you (in return) a pot of gold. Now, the last step is to choose the right keywords from the Suggestions tab and start blogging!

Let's assume that you are doing a niche blog and you are looking for a great writer to do it for you. Well, HitTail team thought of that too!

You can use the 'Order an Article'' button on HitTail and get a complete article for the price of $19. And if you think that it is some sort of low quality blog post, you are absolutely wrong.

These are written by professional and you are guaranteed a high quality post that is according to your requirements.

So, is HitTail worth it?

For me, HitTail is really an excellent tool for bloggers. If you are looking to invest time and effort into organic search engine optimization techniques, HitTail got to be in your goto keyword tools.

HitTail cost from $19.95 per month and it comes with a 21 days free trial. Register for HitTail for free!

Transforming Google Keyword Planner in a massive keyword scrapper

Recently, Google decided to drop the bomb and ended the famous (and trusted), Google Keyword Tool from service. It was replaced by the new version which is called Google Keyword Planner.

I would be lying to you if I say that I love Google Keyword Planner at first. In fact, I hated so much due to so many obvious reasons. When I heard that Google Keyword Tool is going 'off', I told myself to stick to a few SEO tools such as Scribe, Long Tail Pro and SEMRush.

Early this month, I decided to try on it and promised to sit in front of my old HP Pavilion laptop trying to learn everything about it.

Without much delay, this blog post is all about Keyword Planner and how you can really use it for your advantage when it comes to keyword research. I am not going to deny that for starters, it has slight learning curve compared to the previous version.

Why you should not be worried about Keyword Planner?

What is Google Keyword Planner?

It is the new replacement of Google Keyword Tool (duh!) and it is said to provide great experience for bloggers who are trying to find quality keywords.

Now, how true is this?

Google Keyword Planner is a double edge blade. It works pretty well if you know what you are looking for. If you are hoping that this keyword planner will give you some good keywords with just some clicks, then you better stick to premium SEO tools like this one.

Here are a few things I like about the almighty Google Keyword Planner:

Google Keyword Planner - The basic

There are four very easy but different ways you can find perform keyword research on Keyword Planner which are:

  1. Searching for keywords and ad groups ideas
  2. Enter or upload keywords to see how they perform
  3. Get traffic estimates for a list of keywords
  4. Multiply keyword lists

This is probably the place where most bloggers and keyword searchers give up!

Everything looks so complicated here and for newbie, this can be a very huge disappointment considering that Keyword Planner is said to be better than the previous keyword tool right?

Yup, that happened to me too and continue reading the below for more information.

The most complete Keyword Planner tutorial

4 different ways to use Keyword Planner for keyword research

1. Searching for keywords and ad groups ideas

Advantages: Finding long tail keywords and possible keywords to use (using ad groups)

Disadvantages: Figures are not specific and there is a possibility of having a low searched keyword in the ad groups

This is the part where you can find groups of keywords which could be very useful for you in blogging and each groups of keywords would have roughly between 5 to 12 different long tail keywords.

For example, you are searching for the keyword 'blogging' and Keyword Planner gives you probably a dozen or more keyword groups.

Now, let's take the first keyword group with an average of 71,000 average monthly searches. The group is consisted of several keywords such as:

This means that, these are some keywords which are highly related to the term you are searching, 'blogging' and has a total of about 71,000 searches monthly.

Now, read the above sentence again and tell me what you had actually read.

The total number of searches on this ad group is 71,000 and it is a combination of all the above keywords. This means that there is a high chance that some keywords are actually searched more than the other.

Does this make any sense to you?

Here's what it looks like for a clearer picture:

2. Enter or upload keywords to see how they (keywords) perform

Advantages: Able to determine the exact number of searches and CPC for that specific keyword

Disadvantages: Slightly complicated as it highly dependable to symbols

I uses this more than the previous one. In fact, this is a great SEO tool if you want to have exact (not estimated) keyword search or CPC cost per keyword.

Here are the legends you need to know in order to use this function:

Broad match - Blogging

Phrase match - "Blogging"

Exact match - [Blogging]

In broad match, keywords found could be related and non related to blogging. This gives you a general result and honestly speaking, it doesn't help much when it comes to finding the exact keyword.

Keywords found using phrase match are highly related to the term 'blogging'. This means that it could have the basic word of 'blog' in the keyword or simple having the same meaning as 'blog' or 'blogging'.

Exact match keywords is what we are looking for. For example, searching for the term [blogging] would give us 14,800 searches. This is a strip down of the whooping, 71,000 searches that we had found earlier.

When it comes to finding the best or the most profitable keyword, it is highly recommended that you uses Exact Match feature to get the best results.

Google Keyword Planner offers users to find broad, phrase and exact match keywords

Does this look similar to the old Google Keyword Tool?

3. Get traffic estimates for a list of keywords

Advantages: This feature provides bloggers with number of clicks, impressions and cost per day.

Disadvantages: It is very 'sales oriented' and is more focus to Google Adwords users.

I would say this is pretty clear cut. Enter a keyword or more and Google Keyword Planner will give you an estimation of traffic.

Regardless of the disadvantages, I would still consider this as a great tool especially when you are looking to invest into into Google Adwords.

Google Adwords and Keyword Planner merged under one platform

Google Adwords is easier to manage and bid with the help of Keyword Planner

4. Multiply keyword lists

Advantages: This is good for cross matching keywords

Disadvantages: Chance of wrongly matched keywords is high and this is a rather 'advance' feature

Basically, this particular Keyword Planner feature helps you to create multiple keywords and in some ways, this increase the chances of finding long tail keywords.

All you need to do is to place two different sets of keywords in List 1 and List 2 as seen in the image below. After that, click on the 'Get search volume' as below:

Keyword Planner makes it easy for users to find quality keywords

Multiple keywords lists are great when it comes to finding long tail keywords

This feature is great especially when you are trying to find different keywords (mix and match) and if you are lucky enough, you might land yourself a low competition keyword.
