Landing Page vs HomePage: What are the differences and how to use them effectively?

Defining the needs of Landing Pages and Homepage

This came to mind ... more than once to be honest. I was in the midst of recreating my homepage and I was wondering hard.

Should I get a landing page or create a homepage instead?

Believe me.

I took my time to decide which is more than I should.

I decided to go with the homepage setup instead using Thrive Architect.

Of course, this leads us to the main question for today.

Why would anyone need a landing page?

A landing page does a lot of wonders for you, including:

  • Growing an email list
  • Increase conversion rates
  • Turning leads into paying customers or subscribers
  • Static and dynamic landing page that synchronize with paid advertisements
  • Specific point to drive traffic

Why would anyone need a homepage?

Homepage is very critical for me.

As a speaker and success coach in Malaysia, having a professional homepage is more important than ever.

You might have heard that a good homepage is SEO friendly ... which is true.

Homepage is always known as the most important SEO part of a blog. It carries a lot of SEO juice and it has to be configured correctly.

This means that it needs to link to as many internal pages on your blog, along with proper SEO structure.

The truth about homepages

The truth is homepage requires more work to be effective. Firstly, the homepage is where you showcase your blog, your worth and expertise to first time visitors. It also serves as a directory to ensure that your readers can navigate your blog easily.

But here's a shocking part.

Do you know that landing pages can be used as homepage?

Thanks to drag and drop website builders such as Thrive Architect and Divi, you can easily convert landing pages into homepages in just a few clicks.

If you are using WordPress like I do, it is really easy to setup custom homepage on WordPress.

Here's how.

Follow these exact steps to create and setup custom homepage on WordPress:

  1. Head over to your WordPress dashboard
  2. Click on the Settings tab
  3. Click on the Reading tab
  4. You see the above setting
  5. In Your homepage display, select a static page
  6. Select the page you want to serve as your homepage

Do you agree that building incredible landing pages is tough?

Hours and hours spend, crazy coding stuffs or even worst, trying to explain your concept to a website developer.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type="1_2"][et_pb_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" border_width_all="1px" border_color_all="#E02B20" /][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" _builder_version="3.17.3" custom_padding="8px|0px|27.1875px|0px|false|false" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_row _builder_version="3.17.3"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3" background_color="#20b51b" custom_padding="16px|16px|16px|16px"]

If that's what you are going through right now, you are in luck. In this article, I'm going to show you exactly how you can simplify the process of creating incredible landing pages in minutes and not hours.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Here's a quick preview on what you will get today.

I'll show you the EXACT steps to take to build an incredible landing page fast, hassle-free and most importantly, keeping you saint during the entire process ... without spending a thousand dollar or more on a web developer.

Let. Gets. Started.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version="3.17.3"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

What makes an incredible landing page?

Conversions, conversions and more conversions.

And apart from that, the landing page needs to look pixel-perfect and loads in a fraction of a second.

Take a moment to understand this quote:

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" specialty="on" _builder_version="3.17.3" custom_padding="0|0px|27.1875px|0px|false|false" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_column type="1_2"][et_pb_text box_shadow_style="preset1" box_shadow_color="#0C71C3" _builder_version="3.17.3" custom_padding="18px|18px|18px|18px"]

According to Unbounce, a 12% conversion rate is pretty good for lead generation landing pages. And by "pretty good," we mean you'll be better than about 90% of your competitors.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type="1_2" specialty_columns="2"][et_pb_row_inner _builder_version="3.17.3"][et_pb_column_inner type="4_4" saved_specialty_column_type="1_2"][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Now, that's quite a lot to ask ...

First, you need to have a damn good landing page design but you are in a super tight on budget and working with a website developer is out of the question.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column_inner][/et_pb_row_inner][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" _builder_version="3.17.3" custom_padding="0|0px|27.1875px|0px|false|false" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_row _builder_version="3.17.3"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Now, enough of the bad news.

Here's the good news.

There's a solution to this and as a matter of fact, this is exactly what coming up next.

Introducing, landing page builders for people like you and me.

A Quick Introduction to Landing Page Builders

In online marketing, a landing page, sometimes known as a "lead capture page", "static page" or a "lander", or a "destination page", is a single web page that appears in response to clicking on a search engine optimized search result or an online advertisement. Wikipedia.

A landing page builder, on the other hand, is a form of software that allows you to create landing pages fast and efficiently. Some landing page builders such as Thrive Architect landing pages, allow you to build landing pages without coding skill.

Yes, you hear me right. But more on this as you carry on reading.

By the way, do you know how a landing page looks like?

See the image below.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" fullwidth="on" _builder_version="3.17.3" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_fullwidth_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" _builder_version="3.17.3" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_row _builder_version="3.17.3"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Landing Page Templates

Do you know how to create a landing page with just a fraction of the time?

The answer is using landing page templates.

Landing page templates are pre-made or pre-installed website designs which are already optimized for conversion.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3" background_color="#0c71c3" custom_padding="18px|18px|18px|18px"]

Landing page templates + Incredible landing page design = Higher conversion

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Now, how do you find the best landing page templates that are easy to use?

The answer is simple. Thrive Architect.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" fullwidth="on" _builder_version="3.17.3" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_fullwidth_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built="1" _builder_version="3.17.3" custom_padding="27.1875px|0px|0|0px|false|false" prev_background_color="#000000" next_background_color="#000000"][et_pb_row _builder_version="3.17.3"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

I've used many landing page builders and most of them are bulky (which affects website loading speed), a high learning curve and expensive.

Thrive Architect is different.

Affordability and rich in features, I was instantly impressed with Thrive Architect when I first install it on my WordPress blog. You can read my review on Thrive Architect here.

Here's how you can use Thrive Architect templates to build high converting landing pages within minutes.

After registering for your plugin, the next step is to create a blank page. Before you are able to use Thrive Architect templates, you need to have the page on draft or published mode.

And finally, proceed with the 'Edit with Thrive Architect' button to start editing your landing page design. Here's the button that you will see on the WordPress backend.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Now, the next step is to click on 'cloud' button which is marked as change template.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Clicking on this button/icon will open up a large inventory of Thrive Architect templates.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Selecting any of these landing page templates (apart from the blank page) will open up another set of landing pages for different requirements.

This is what I mean.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

As you can see above, most landing page builder plugins do not offer set designs but Thrive Architect does. With the set of standard landing page designs, you can rest assured that all your landing pages contain similar layout and designs.

The above sample, FitBrand comes with five different Thrive Architect templates including homepage, lead generation page, email confirmation page, download page and content playground.

Click on any of the Thrive Architect templates to start working on your project (see below)

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src="" _builder_version="3.17.3" /][et_pb_text _builder_version="3.17.3"]

Click on the right sidebar will open up more elements that you can work on your chosen Thrive Architect template.

The Differences Between Splash Page vs Landing Page

Splash Page vs Landing Page. Do you know what are the differences between them? In this post, I'm going to go through some quick differences between a splash page and landing page. Know a friend who needs this?

Use the share button below to spread the word!

What is a splash page?

Here's the definition from Instapages. A splash page is a page that precedes any page on your website. The purpose of a splash page varies: You can promote a new offer, show a disclaimer, or a warning depending on the industry or niche your business operates in.

The basic purpose of a splash page is to inform visitors of something, such as a new company update.

Creative companies such as Forbes uses splash pages to share thought-provoking quotes (to entice the readers):

Forbes Splash Page

Typically, a splash page contains minimal copy, a background image, and most importantly a link that takes the visitor to the main website. Forbes does this perfectly well with the option to 'continue to site.'

At the same time, a splash page can also serve as a welcome screen to the main website or a teaser that gets visitors excited for the website they’re about to view.

What makes a splash page important?

Splash page has many usage which includes:

  • Teaser
  • Coming soon pages
  • Age disclaimer (alcohol or tobacco)

Disadvantages using splash pages

Splash screens contained redirecting JavaScript, which most search engines disliked as well. This redirection is also why websites hosting traditional splash page designs started getting ranked lower in most search engines. These splash pages were often poorly-designed and visitors are turned off from the website altogether. As a summary, splash pages were causing a hindrance for users to engage with the website and business as a whole.

What is a landing page?

A landing page is pretty similar to a splash page - but with some differences. A landing page is a standalone web page, disconnected from a website’s navigation, created for the sole purpose of convincing a visitor to act (to sign up, buy, download, etc.).

The differences between a landing page and a splash page is landing pages are created for conversion.

As businesses become more data-driven, landing pages become more popular for their ability to deliver high ROI. Research has shown that companies using 40 or more landing pages generate 120% more leads than those using less than 5.

Create Landing Pages

Why are landing pages better than splash pages?

Landing pages often come with specific goals. As a matter of fact, each landing page should have one goal. If your landing page is built for the purpose of getting prospects to sign up for a free trial of your service, it shouldn’t also attempt to convince them to download a report.

Two CTAs of “Download” and “Sign up” will steal conversions from each other. Instead, it’s better to build a separate page for each.

Splash Page vs Landing Page

Both splash page and landing page are different and you will be surprised that many marketers use splash and landing pages wrongly.

If you want to generate more leads and retain website visitors, spend more time in creating landing pages that converts.

Bonus: How to create a landing page or a splash page?
